A local coffee house, Eagles Nest, is serving up some Christmas spirit with the launch of the first annual community wide toy and food drive in the Dundas and Ossington area.
On Saturday, November 26, members of the Little Portugal BIA including local area business, Eagles Nest will kick off the campaign with the first annual Donation Day. The event will begin at 11am and run until 2pm. Torontonians are being asked to drop off donations at the Eagles Nest, located at 1199 Dundas Street West, in an effort to fill the location with toys and food for those in need. Other area businesses will also be collecting non-perishable food donations to restock Daily Bread Food Bank shelves that are often depleted after Thanksgiving. Donations will be accepted until December 17th, 2011. Toys will be donated to the local firehall.
We invite everyone to join us on Saturday, November 26th from 11am – 2pm and bring an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item. Eagles Nest will have free refreshments on site and entertainment for the entire family. Everyone who delivers a donation valued at $10 or more during the event will receive a free ginger bread man and a chance to win a PS3!
Suggested food donation items include canned fruits and vegetables, canned fish or meats, jars of peanut butter, bottles of pasta sauce, and boxes of dried pasta. Again, all items should be non-perishable. Toys must be new and unwrapped. No money will be collected on site.
About the BIA:
The Little Portugal BIA serves the businesses and community on Dundas Street West from Shaw Street to Rusholme Road. BIA members include both businesspeople and property owners, unified by the common goal of fostering healthy and responsible growth, while maintaining the valued traditions and cultural diversity of Little Portugal. We work on a volunteer basis, in partnership with the City of Toronto, to beautify, invigorate, and promote our neighbourhood, and we invite all concerned parties to join us in these efforts.
